Local Information for Orihuela-Costa

Orihuela Costa is essentially the jewel in the crown of the Orihuela municipality in the province of Alicante, Spain. It has has around 17 km of beautiful coastline surrounded by cliffs, islets, long sandy beaches and two vibrant marinas.

In this beautiful part of eastern Spain on the Mediterranean coastline of the Costa Blanca, vistors and residents enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine each year on some of the best beaches in Europe. Most of the beaches have “Q” for Tourism Quality recognition, presented by the Ministry of Industry and the honourable Blue Flag from the European Foundation. This award certifies that their beaches meet strict environmental conditions and provide adequate facilities and controls.

Beaches on the Orihuela-Costa

Playa Cala Bosque (La Zenia)
Playa Cala Bosque / La Zenia Beach

Cala Bosque, also known as La Zenia Beach, is one of the most popular beaches on the Orihuela Costa. It is 350 metres in length and is bordered by Cala Cerrada to the north and Cala Capitán to the south.

La Zenia Beach has excellent services which have resulted in it being awarded the prestigious Blue Flag. It is a lovely sandy beach which is ideal for playing sport or for lazing around on a sun lounger.

During the Summer months there are Red Cross lifeguards who watch over the bathers. The beach has special access for the disabled, roadside parking, a bus stop, play area, beach bars, and toilets. Here you will also find the fabulous La Mirada Restaurant with private swimming pool, and the Servigroup La Zenia Hotel.

On Christmas Day, La Zenia Beach is also the host of the fabulous Orihuela-Costa Christmas Party where thousands of residents go to enjoy food on the beach and great entertainment for all the family.

Playa Cabo Roig

Cabo Roig beach is surrounded by beautiful coves is bordered to the north by Cala Capitán Beach to the south by the Calas de Aguamarina. The beach is 420 metres long and 18 metres wide.

Cabo Roig beach is one of soft, fine sand which is very popular by beach lovers. The beach is accessible by stairs and ramps and has roadside parking.

Cabo Roig beach offers a wide variety of services for sun and adventure seekers, including dinghy sailing, windsurfing, and padel boarding, and the bay is a popular destination for boats to drop anchor.

Torre Vigía - the Cabo Roig Watch Tower

Cabo Roig is a popular beach for bathers. It has a beach bar which offers regular music entertainment and access to public toilets. There is also plenty of entertainment such as padel boards and peddle boats.

Next to the Cabo Roig beach, you will also find the Cabo Roig marina where you can hire boats and jetskis, or where you can moor up you boat and visit the popular Cabo Roig Restaurant or La Bahia Bar and Restaurant with its popular cocktails and fresh seafood menu.

Towering over the Cabo Roig marina and Cabo Roig beach is the "Torre Vigía" (the Cabo Roig Watch Tower). The role of the watch tower was to guard against attacks by Barbary pirates. This building is cylindrical and sloped at its base. It is located in lovely surrounding with stunning sea views and is currently used as a restaurant cellar and as a private dining room.

Cala Capitán Beach

Cala Capitán is a small beach compared to most of the other beaches in the area. It is 157 metres long and 86 metres deep. It is bordered by a strip of land separated from other beaches such as Cala Bosque (La Zenia Beach) to the north and Cabo Roig to the south. It is a very short walk along the beachside pathways to either of these beaches.

Despite the size of Cala Capitán, it is still a very popular beach with local residents and vistors. It is a sandy beach with a short swim to the outlying rock which protects bathers from the waves and wind. The beach is fairly shallow and is suitable for children of all ages. During the Summer season Cala Capitán is manned by lifeguards provided by the Red Cross.

There is plenty of roadside parking and a nearby restaurant (currently known as The Beach House Cabo Roig) for snacks and cool drinks.

Playa Flamenca Beach

Playa Flamenca Beach, also known as Cala Estaca, is bordered to the north by Cala Mosca and to the south by Cala Cerrada. It has an area of ​​150 metres of fine white sand.

This is another Orihuela-Costa beach which has been awarded the honourable Blue Flag by the European Foundation.

Playa Flamenca Beach offers all of the services beachgoers need. These include a lovely long promenade, walkways, showers, car parks, watchtowers manned by Red Cross lifeguards during the Summer months, and a children's play area.

Playa Flamenca Beach is a very popular destination for holidaymakers to the Orihuela-Costa. It is just a short walk from the Centro Comercial Playa Flamenca where there is an abundance of entertainment venues, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, excellent holiday rental options, and residential areas.

Playa Punta Prima Beach

Punta Prima is a lovely, small beach of white and golden sand, bordered to the south by Cala Mosca and to the north by the sandy beaches and world-class marinas of Torrevieja. Punta Prima beach is over 200 metres long and is another fine location on the Orihuela-Costa which has been awarded the Blue Flag for quality.

A few metres from this beach there is a rocky stretch, highly recommended for sport and leisure fishing with a rod. It is also bordered by a small promenade which links together the finest beaches on the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida.

Punta Prima beach is equipped with all the services such as showers, footbaths, Red Cross watchtowers with lifeguards during the Summer months, parking, bus stop and lovely restaurants including the front line Punta Prima Restaurant and the Nautilus.

Furthermore, just a short 5 or so minute walk away, there are more bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and the Punta Marina shopping center.

Playa Cala Mosca Beach

With 100 metres in length, Playa Mosca is bordered to the south by Cala Estaca and to the north by Punta Prima. Playa Cala Mosca is a small cove with interesting protected natural elements bordered by two rocky areas that give it the appearance of a well-defined bay with a great depth of fine sand.

It is a very clean beach, both for its golden sand and the beautiful turquoise waters, which can be accessed from the N-332 national road which runs throughout Spain alongside the Mediterranean coastline.

Cala Mosca Beach has a promenade with all the required services, including access for disabled patrons. There are a wide variety of supermarkets, bars, and restaurants where you can try the local cuisine.

As with most of the beaches on the Orihuela-Costa, Cala Mosca beach is privileged to have been awarded the Blue Flag for quality and excellence. It also has ISO9001 and ISO14001 certification.

Playas de Aguamarina

Aguamarina Beach is located between Cabo Roig and Campoamor. It is a small beach of around 500 metres in length which is composed mainly of white and golden sand that contains a natural reserve of fossils.

It is a fairly quiet beach. The rocky cliffs protect it from most of the elements so the water is generally clear and calm making it ideal for bathing.

As with many other beaches in the area, Playa Aguamarina (Aguamarina Beach) has also been awarded the Blug Flag for excellence and quality. Its facilities include a WC service, a lifeguard hut manned by the Red Cross, a beach bar, footbaths and ramps accessible to people with disabilities.

Playa La Glea / Campoamor Beach

Playa La Glea / Campoamor Beach is one of the biggest beaches on the Orihuela-Costa. The beach has a surface area of ​​650 metres in length and 20 metres in width, bordered to the north by the Aguamarina cove and to the south by the stunning Campoamor marina and Barranco Rubio beach.

Its fine sand and its great variety of children's / youth games and entertainment make it perfect for family occasions or sports events.

Campoamor / La Glea beach is one of the most established and best equipped in the area. It offers a multitude of services such as footbaths and showers, first aid stations and watch towers manned by Red Cross lifeguards in the Summer months, beach bars, ample parking and restaurants.

Campoamor beach is a Blue Flag award-winning all-year round holiday destination.

Playa Barranco Rubio

Playa Barranco Rubio is located at the mouth of the Barranco Rubio and is bordered to the north by the Campoamor marina and to the south by Playa Mil Palmeras.

With golden sand and calm waters, this beach, 655 metres long and 47 metres wide, is located in an urban area but without a promenade. The beach has all the amenities such as restaurants, lifeguard posts manned by the Red Cross during the Summer months, parking, a shopping area, a discotheque area, cafes and pubs.

This is a very popular area during the Summer months when residents from other parts of Spain visit the Orihuela-Costa to enjoy their holidays.

In the Summer months, their are also plent of waterspart activities which can be undertaken from Baranco Rubio beach. These include parasailing, jetski rides, and playing on the bouncy castles.

Barranco Rubio beach enjoys the Blue Flag for quality as well as ISO9001 and ISO14001 certification.

Mil Palmeras Beach

Playa Mil Palmeras beach is one of the most biggest beaches on the Orihuela-Costa. Awarded the Blue Flag excellence and quality, Mil Palmeras beach has a surface area of ​​650 metres in length and 20 metres in width. This beach is bordered to the north by the Aguamarina cove and to the south by the Barranco Rubio beach.

Mil Palmeras (1000 Palm Trees) beach as more than 346 metres of golden sand which makes it perfect for spending a day with family or friends. Surrounding Mil Palmeras beach there is a children's park for the enjoyment of the little ones. During the Summer months there are plenty of watersports including inflatables for the children to play on.

Mil Palmeras beach offers surveillance services (by Red Cross lifeguards) during the Summer months, special access for people with disabilities, showers, footbaths, public telephones, parking and taxi or bus stops.

Close to Mil Palmeras beach there is a little square which has plenty of bars, cafeterias, restaurants, and a supermarket.

Villamartin Golf Course

Villamartin Golf Course was designed by Paul Putman and built in 1972. It is is situated on the Orihuela-Costa within a couple of kilometers of the La Zenia and Campoamor (La Glea) beaches and just a short drive to Torrevieja.

The par for the course is 72 and it measures 6005 metres from the white tees, 5868 meters from the yellow tees, 6499 meters from the blue tees, and 5007 meters from the red tees.

In 1994, Villamartin hosted the Mediterranean Open which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal after an exciting play-off with Paul McGinley.

Villamartin Golf Course is built on hilly ground with the front nine holes being at the highest point of the course offering some spectacular Mediterranean sea views. The second nine holes are situated more in valleys with barancas (ravines) coming into play on several holes.

La Ramblas Golf Course

The 18-hole Las Ramblas Golf Club in Orihuela is located in a mountainous area, which makes the course interesting for players who want to take risks. For sure this course is not for the fait hearted. Being very mountainous and with large valleys, the player is required to make difficult shots. The many trees that cross the course and the water obstacles stand out and come into play on almost every hole.

The Ramblas that appear along the course, some of them very difficult, make the game more attractive and interesting. In order to reach the greens in regulation, players are lured into taking a long drive with a wood on almost every tee shot but the clever way to play the course is to remain restrained and play down the fairway with a steady iron shot.

This is definitely a course where it is an advantage to have an excellent short game!

Las Ramblas Golf Course was built in 1991 and was designed by Pepe Gancedo. It is a par 72.

Real Campoamor Golf Course / Real Club de Golf Campoamor

Real Campoamor golf course / Real Club de Golf Campoamor has challenged experienced golfers since 1988, when it was inaugurated under the name of Real Club de Golf Campoamor by H.R.H. D. Juan de Borbón, Count of Barcelona and every August a championship is held in honour of his name.

Campoamor Golf Course emerged from the natural beauty of the Dehesa de Campoamor between two valleys connected to each other and surrounded by small hills that protect it from the wind, creating a special microclimate that makes golf possible all year round.

With a course of 6,277 metres and par 72, Real Club de Golf Campoamor offers the player a playing surface maintained under the most demanding quality standards that is enhanced, if possible, by the exuberant flora and fauna of the course.

As well as the golf, Campoamor Golf Resort also offers the use of a fabulous clubhouse for all occasions such as corporate events and weddings. Furthermore, the resort is a popular location for professional sports teams as it offers superb hotel facilities, and a multitude of soccer pitches, padel, and tennis courts.
