Villamartin on the Orihuela-Costa, Alicante is one of the most established areas on the Southern Costa Blanca in Spain. The area of Villamartin is well-known for the Villamartin Golf course which was designed by Paul Putman and completed in 1972. Later, in 1994, this par 72 championship golf course played host to the Mediterranean Open which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal after an exciting play-off with Paul McGinley.

The area of Villamartin is made up of a lot of different "urbanisations", including Blue Lagoon, El Galán, Eagles Nest, Villacosta, Montegolf, Las Filipinas, El Presidente, Las Valencias, and PAU-8. All of these "urbanisations" have been built around the Villamartin Golf Resort and the world-famous Villamartin Plaza which offers a supermarket, bars, restaurants, and plenty of entertainment for all the family.

Villamartin is a very popular tourist destination for Spanish nationals and international visitors. It is close to all of the award-winning Blue Flag beaches of the Orihuela-Costa and famous landmarks such as the La Zenia Boulevard Shopping Center.

The majority of the residents in Villamartin are English speakers and immigrants from northern Europe who have settled in the area and transformed it from what was once barron land to what is now a modern and cosmopolitan place for people from all nationalities and walks of life.

Villamartin is situated on the Orihuela-Costa, around 4km inland from the Mediterranean coastline. Surrounding Villamartin are the municipalities of San Miguel de Salinas, Torrevieja, and Pilar de la Horadada, as well as areas such as Cabo Roig, La Zenia, Campoamor, Los Dolses, La FLorida, and Los Altos.

There are a number of golf courses close to Villamartin which include Las Ramblas Golf Course, the Real Club de Golf Campoamor, and Las Colinas Golf and Country Club.

Transport Links to and from Villamartin

Villamartin is officialy in the municipality of Orihuela (of which Orihuela-Costa is technically still a "pedania"), and is connected to the N-332 at La Zenia, Cabo Roig, and Mil Palmeras. Villamartin also has easy access to the AP-7 motorway which is used to reach the airports of Murcia-Covera International (RMU) and Alicante-Elche International (ALC) which are both less than 50 minutes away by car.
